{"id":7354,"date":"2023-08-05T10:47:51","date_gmt":"2023-08-05T09:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rakhesh.com\/?p=7354"},"modified":"2023-08-05T10:47:51","modified_gmt":"2023-08-05T09:47:51","slug":"jetpack-connection-is-broken","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rakhesh.com\/wordpress\/jetpack-connection-is-broken\/","title":{"rendered":"Jetpack connection is broken"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was trying to add the <a href=\"https:\/\/jetpack.com\/support\/jetpack-social\/mastodon\/#:~:text=Connecting%20your%20site%20to%20your%20Mastodon%20profile&amp;text=Next%2C%20navigate%20to%20Jetpack%20\u2192,on%20your%20WordPress.com%20Dashboard.&amp;text=2.,Connect%20button%20adjacent%20to%20it.\">Mastodon connection<\/a> to this blog today and once I&#8217;d enter my credentials to connect Jetpack errored out with a <em>Jetpack connection is broken<\/em> error.<\/p>\n<p>Step 5 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/jetpack.com\/support\/getting-started-with-jetpack\/troubleshooting-tips\/\">troubleshooting steps<\/a> was to check if \/xmlrpc.php is accessible. It should give the following message if all goes well: <code>XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only<\/code>. In my case it didn&#8217;t. First I got an error that the site doesn&#8217;t support https; and once I clicked past that the connection was reset.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t remember actively disabling it, but I use Cloudways and Googled along those lines. Sure enough, Cloudways <a href=\"https:\/\/support.cloudways.com\/en\/articles\/5127178-disable-xmlrpc-in-wordpress-applications\">helpfully disables<\/a> it for security reasons. So I went there, enabled it, tried again and now I could connect the two.<\/p>\n<p>But then I disabled it again, and now the Jetpack page has forgotten the Mastodon connection and still complains that it can&#8217;t access my site.
