Quick shout out to this video by Vox Media:

It’s interesting that I came across this video at this point in time. I am currently reading “Blood and Sand” by Alex von Tuzelmann (whose other books I am sure I mentioned in the past – e.g. “Indian Summer”). Although I grew up in the Middle East I am not well versed in the events and unrest there and this book was super interesting. So interesting in that I read about half-way and then speed re-read all the way from the beginning to where I had reached over the past two days. There’s so many things happening in that book, and the authoress moves between the present and the past and sometimes revisits the same events a couple of times that I felt it would be good to have a recap for myself. I had been reading this book for around two weeks now and a refresher felt useful.

Anyways, this video from Vox ties into some of the events in the book, although the book only briefly mentions such an event. So it was good to see the video and get an understanding of the context. I just found it interesting that I was reading about this and there’s a video out now and the May 15th date is important etc.

A great video, and an excellent book – both highly recommended. When you read a book like this you start to wonder what all political events could be happening around you that you are so unaware of. The current events such as war etc. for instance – so many things are going on behind the scenes, most of them top-secret, and it’s only some 50-60 years down the line that we’ll come to know what happened.

Update (23rd May 2023): Finished the day couple of days ago. A good read.
