Nothing much to write about this one, but I feel it deserves a mention. Amal Neerad movies are reliable, and this one doesn’t disappoint. You get the usual well slick movie with a few slow motion walks here and there ☺️ and some good atmosphere.
“Bougainvillea” is no “Bheeeshma Parvam”, it’s more like “Varathan” in that you got to ignore a few things that just don’t make sense, but that’s fine by me. I enjoyed this movie. The twist at the end was kind of expected too, nevertheless was fun to see that too revealed.
Nice to see Jyothirmayi on screen after ages (I didn’t know she was married to Amal Neerad until I read her Wikipedia page today!) and Kunchacko Boban was a pleasure to watch. He’s very versatile in his roles nowadays, and looks sumptuous in this movie. I have no idea why Fahadh Fasil was cast in this movie, he didn’t have much of a role.

Update (at night): I noticed my new profile picture that I uploaded a few days ago and that reminded me of something I had noticed with this movie too. You see, in the previous picture I was looking towards the right of the screen while in the new one I am looking to the left. But in reality, I am looking in the same direction in both pictures, just that the new one was taken using the front facing camera and so it’s mirrored. And that reminded me of how in a lot of scenes of “Bougainvillea” the camera looks focuses on the mirror, and I had liked that. That’s one of the things that gave me an early inkling that things aren’t as they appear to be, because the mirror world is opposite after all. By focussing on the mirror, the director is hinting to us not to believe everything. A nice touch.
