Manu S Pillai’s “The Ivory Throne”

A short post with a quick book recommendation – “The Ivory Throne” by Manu S Pillai.

Came across this when I was in India a few months ago. Bought all three books of the author in the bookshop without having read any of his work, but based on the contents looking interesting. This first book didn’t disappoint at all, a lovely magnum opus on the forgotten last Queen of Travancore and her family.

Even though I am a Keralite I don’t know much about Kerala history or even Travancore having grown up abroad most of my life. I know more about world and European history than Indian or Kerala history. Heck, I recently read “Indian Summer: The Secret History of the End of an Empire” by Alex von Tunzelmann and I learnt a lot about Indian history in that; and now I read this and there’s so many things I absolutely had no idea of!

It’s a very well written book, with the story told in a simple but engrossing way. Loved it! Both books are great, I just finally got moved to mention these in a blog post after this latest one.

Now I am reading “Fallen Idols” by Alex von Tunzelmann. I bought all her books I could find on Amazon too, after reading “Indian Summer”.
